Hummingbird Food Recipe

I love my hummingbirds! I love watching them flit around my kitchen windows at the feeders I put out every Spring. As much as I love the fall it always makes me sad when they head away to warmer weather.

Last year I started making my own hummingbird nectar. Store bought tends to be expensive and I don't like that it comes loaded with artificial dyes that aren't good for them. After doing research I realized that making my own would be easy and inexpensive.

Hummingbird Food Recipe:

4 cups boiling water
1 cup sugar

Directions: Bring water to a boil on the stove. Stir in sugar until it's dissolved and then let cool.

Easy peasy. That's it. Once the mix is cool you can fill the feeders. Any leftovers can be stored in the fridge for a few days. It is recommended that you change out the food about every 3 days to prevent mold from growing which happens rather quickly when it's hot out.

Now sit back, relax with a glass of your favorite beverage and watch the sweet little things hum and eat to their little hearts content.
