Dear Fall

Dear Fall,

I feel you creeping in slowly but surely.

I saw it in the trees turning colors and even though the trees held on the leaves eventually tugged loose from their branches and fell gently to the ground.

I saw it in the cooler weather with it's rainy days start becoming more consistent.

I smelled it in the smells of fireplaces starting to be used and the warm scents of baking wafting from houses.

I tasted it in the warm homemade cocoa and goodies fresh from the oven.

I felt you in the blanket I wrapped myself in when I sat in front of the open window to drink the day in.

I feel it in the desire to wind down and breathe. To spend more time in front of the fireplace playing games and laughing with my family.

Fall, you mean so much more than pumpkin spice everything, cozy sweaters, and boots. You are a way of life. You call for life to slow down and stop. To rest. To inhale. To see the hard work of our labors and smile knowing that it was a job well done. Thank you Fall for the wonderful reminder you bring to the world that there is a time for everything. A time to be busy and a time for quiet and rest.

While there is still is much to do before winter sets in, I feel Fall is asking for me to pause in my busy day and breathe it all in. Because I know she is wise I will listen, take a deep breath, and be thankful for another year.
