I See You My Son

I see you. my son.

I saw you when you walked in the door.

I saw your tired face and brusque manner.

When I asked you questions you muttered and turned away.

I asked if you were tired and grumpy and you said no without thinking.

So I did what I felt you needed. I called you over to me.

You begrudgingly shuffled over and resisted when I pulled you on my lap. I held you anyway.

I saw your hidden glare behind half closed eyes.

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. You make me happy when skies are gray.

I saw your eyes relax and close. You snuggled closer.

You sighed and the weight of the world fell off your shoulders and you relaxed into sleep.

You'll never know dear how much I love you.

My tired child.

I carried you to my room and laid you on my bed. I pulled the covers up and tucked you in. I listened to the soft whiffling sound of your breathing.

I knew with my mom's intuition what you needed. When you awake, you will once again take on the world. A knight chasing dragons.

Please don't take my sunshine away.
